Corrective Hair Restoration

The range of corrective medical hair restoration procedures depend on the extent of damage done from a previous botched or unnatural hair restoration surgery. Sometimes, the problem from a previous transplant comes from the use of the antiquated “plugs” also known as “doll’s head hair.” The pluggy look is a result of a graft that is too large, creating too much density in an inappropriate area. A natural look starts with a natural hairline, which has a transition zone, and a defined zone. The transition zone uses one and two hair follicular units, in order to create a subtle, soft hairline. This transition zone eases into the defined zone, which consists of transplanting the hairs closer together (also called “dense packing”). The units in the defined hairline zone will sometimes contain more hair per unit as well to increase the thickness.

Under supervision from a trained, board certified hair replacement specialist, using the most up to date hair restoration techniques, patients can correct their pluggy, unnatural hair transplant results.

Additional unnatural results come from the improper construction of your hairline. This can mean too high or too low on your forehead. For obvious reasons, the higher hairline is easier to correct by transplanting grafts into the properly designed hairline area. The low hairline requires more difficulty, creating the need to remove the previously transplanted grafts, or raising the hairline by a scalp reduction or brow lift. Finding a skilled hair replacement specialist with experience in corrective procedures is necessary to get the best result from your corrective procedure.

Lastly, detectable results occur when hair is transplanted into the frontotemporal gulf area, often made worse when the angulation and direction of the transplanted hair is incorrect. This result is eye-catching and very unnatural. Luckily, with the implementation of some of the techniques discussed in the previous paragraphs, the bad transplant can be transformed into an unnatural, invisible result.
