What Patients are Saying

At Arocha Hair Restoration, we value patient feedback and we encourage the community of patients who have undergone surgical hair restoration procedures (hair transplants) to share their experiences with those who are considering how to address their hair loss. The following reviews were recently posted on Google Plus:

From Oklahoma:

Dr Arocha is a skilled surgeon and perfectionist. After many months of research, I was fortunate to find him and his team for my 3rd hair transplant. My first two HTs--with another clinic--produced limited results and left my donor area with large scars and major areas of shockloss.

My first visit with Dr Arocha took place in his satellite office located in Dallas. He is based out of Houston. And his facilities there are classy, spacious, and well equipped for HT procedures. His team (Craig, Maria, and Ed) is 1st class. During my consultation, I told the doc how disappointed I was with my previous procedures. Dr Arocha listened to my concerns and goals. He was an expert when it came to discussing realistic expectations for my new hairline and creating a long term plan to repair my damaged scalp. Compared to my last plastic surgeon--who had the worst bedside manners--it was night & day. Dr Arocha was emphatic, caring, and genuine.

I travelled to Houston from Oklahoma for my procedure. Dr Arocha provides a discount voucher if you travel to Houston. Additionally, hotels in the area have "hospital patient" room rates, which makes lodging more affordable. During the surgery, I felt little discomfort and lunch was served, nice plus! After the procedure, the doc released me and Craig drove me to my hotel. Thanks Craig!!! The following day I had a hair washing and quick follow up. After that I was off...until my 10-day follow up for suture removal.

- 5 out of 5 stars...I have only one regret--I wish I had found Dr Arocha sooner.

Fast Recovery:

Dr. Arocha put me in ease about the procedure. I had both the FUT and FUE procedure done in a span of 2 months. The procedure was done with great care and the recovery was fast, 1-2 weeks as is normal.

The team were friendly and put me in ease through the whole procedure/process.

I am still awaiting my hair growth but from what I have seen so far (about 2 months post-op) it seems to be on track.

I will post more in 3-4 months as I see my hair grow :)

A big 'thank you' to these patients for sharing their stories and observations. We hope you continue to provide updates to let others know the results that have been achieved. If anyone has questions, please call Arocha Hair Restoration at 888-723-4247.

Dr. Bernard Arocha Discusses Hair Restoration Advances of Past 20 Years

This is the 20th year of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS), which is prompting Dr. Bernard Arocha to look back and reflect on the significant improvements made in the art and science of hair restoration surgery. Millions of men and women around the world have better hair to show for the tremendous growth in hair restoration.

While there have been numerous improvements in hair restoration in the last two decades, the introduction of follicular units in hair restoration surgery, improvements in angling techniques that achieve natural, undetectable results and the oral medication finasteride are the three most important contributions in the field, says Dr. Arocha.

The following information was provided by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, of which Dr. Arocha is a member:

 Follicular Units

One of the biggest complaints about early hair restoration surgery was the appearance of visible plugs or “doll’s hair” in the transplanted area. This unnatural result was due to a single graft containing 15 to 25 or more hairs being transplanted in rows on the scalp. Now, advances in hair restoration surgery have led to the use of follicular units containing small bundles of one to four hair follicles.

There are two methods of harvesting donor follicles – follicular unit transplantation (FUT) and follicular unit extraction (FUE).

In follicular unit transplantation (FUT), the surgeon takes a strip of permanent donor hair from the back of the head, which are then divided up microscopically (so as not to damage them) by a team of highly trained technicians.

In follicular unit extraction (FUE), the specially trained hair restoration surgeon extracts individual follicular units directly from the patient’s donor area (usually at the back of the scalp or nape of the neck where scarring is less noticeable) and transplants them directly into the scalp or further divides them into smaller units before transplantation.

Today’s grafts can better imitate the manner in which hair grows naturally, resulting in a more natural, undetectable outcome. In addition, continual improvements in the instrumentation and techniques used for follicular unit extraction and transplantation, including robotic assisted FUE, may further enhance the results of hair restoration surgery in the future.

 Finasteride

Approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1997, finasteride 1mg (Propecia) is the only oral medication approved for the treatment of male pattern hair loss. Several years of investigation and use by more than 1 million patients show that finasteride has long-term effectiveness and safety in treating male pattern hair loss in men of all ages and all ethnic backgrounds.

Research has shown that finasteride’s effects in slowing hair loss and stimulating new hair growth work best for early to moderate degrees of hair loss, and it is often used in conjunction with minoxidil (Rogaine), a topical medication approved by the FDA for treating hair loss in men and women, to further enhance results. In addition, the technology of low level laser therapy as been shown to be effective to slow progression of hair loss and can re-grow hair. Over the years, hair restoration experts have found that hair restoration surgery and proven medical therapies are an effective combination in treating people with thinning hair and limiting future hair loss.

Dr. Bernardino Arocha to Use Robotics to Transform Hair Restoration

Minimally Invasive ARTAS™Restoration System gives patients fast recovery with little scarring

HOUSTON, February 6, 2013– Houston Hair Restoration expert, Dr. Bernardino Arocha of Arocha Hair Restoration (www.arochahairrestoration.com), will introduce minimally invasive robotic hair restoration to patients wishing for a shorter recovery and no visible scarring in addition to the natural, undetectable results Dr. Arocha is already known for. Arocha Hair Restoration will be the first to receive and begin using the ARTAS Robotic System for hair restoration.

Dr. Arocha is a Diplomat of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery and has performed more than 3,000 hair transplant surgeries, transplanting an estimated total of approximately 9 million follicles. He serves as a physician examiner for the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery. Arocha Hair Restoration exclusively performs medical and surgical hair restoration procedures, focusing on ultra-refined follicular unit hair transplantation.

The ARTAS Robotic System uses sophisticated imaging technology and precision robotics to locate and collect individual follicular units accurately and consistently, thousands of times in a single session. ARTAS is used on the back of the patient’s scalp where hair follicles are dihydrotestosterone (DHT)-resistant and not susceptible to genetic hair loss when transplanted to the top of the scalp.

“The combination of a highly experienced and skilled surgeon with the advanced robotic ARTAS technology means patients recover significantly faster due to the minimally invasive procedure,” said Dr. Arocha. “With the ARTAS technology, computer algorithms help us achieve a higher level of precision less likely to damage the graft and more likely to preserve its protective tissues. This increases the probability that the grafts will survive the transplant process, which contributes to better patient results.”

Over 35 million men are affected by male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) in the United States alone. Approximately two-thirds of American men will experience appreciable hair loss by age 35; by age 50, 85 percent will see significant loss in hair thickness. Genetic hair loss, which typically begins between late adolescence and before or during middle age, is largely untreatable outside of surgery.

In addition to offering The ARTAS System, Arocha Hair Restoration will continue to offer the traditional method of harvesting follicles by removing a strip of scalp and methodically extracting the follicles with the help of a microscope for patient who prefer that option. Dr. Arocha and his experienced team regularly provide surgeries exceeding 3,000 follicular unit grafts per session, with their largest session to date being 6,000 grafts.

 About Arocha Hair Restoration

Led by Bernardino Arocha, M.D., Arocha Hair Restoration offers patients in Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth and throughout Texas and the United States a full range of hair restoration options including state-of-the-art hair transplant surgery and medications that promote hair growth. Arocha Hair Restoration uses advanced technology and a sophisticated hair restoration procedure to restore receding hairlines and crowns using the patient's native hair. HOUSTON, February 6, 2013- Houston Hair Restoration expert, Dr.

ARTAS is used on the back of the patient's scalp where hair follicles are dihydrotestosterone (DHT)-resistant and not susceptible to genetic hair loss when transplanted to the top of the scalp.

"The combination of a highly experienced and skilled surgeon with the advanced robotic ARTAS technology means patients recover significantly faster due to the minimally invasive procedure," said Dr. Arocha. "With the ARTAS technology, computer algorithms help us achieve a higher level of precision less likely to damage the graft and more likely to preserve its protective tissues. This increases the probability that the grafts will survive the transplant process, which contributes to better patient results."

Recovery is fast and results last a lifetime, are completely natural and usually undetectable. For more information, visit www.dallashairloss.com or www.arochahairrestoration.com.

Study Confirms Environment Plays Big Role in Female Hair Loss

A study in the December issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery examined identical twins to isolate the relative contributions of genetics, testosterone and specific environmental exposures to hair loss among women (female androgenic alopecia).

The article, “The Contribution of Endogenous and Exogenous Factors to Female Alopecia: A Study of Identical Twins,” was written by James Gatherwright, M.D., Mengyuan Liu, T. B.S., Christy Gliniak, M.S., Ali Totonchi, M.D. and Bahman Guyuron, M.D., all of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland.

The researchers studied risk factors for hair thinning in a series of 98 identical female twins, average age 54 years to isolate genetics and environmental factors that contribute to androgenic alopecia. Studying identical twins – who share 100 percent of genes – provided an opportunity to separate out the genetic and social/environmental factors associated with any disease or condition.

The twins posed for standard photographs, which the researchers used to measure hair loss or thinning at specific locations: the front, sides and top of the head. Testosterone levels were measured, reflecting hormonal causes of hair loss.

The women also completed detailed questionnaires assessing a wide range of possible environmental, lifestyle and health-related factors--from diet and marital history to common diseases. Differences in these factors could help to explain differences in hair loss risk between genetically identical twins.

Unbelievably, no other study has demonstrated a genetically independent and statistically significant effect of environmental factors on female hair loss. As a result, the specific environmental factors that contribute to the condition are poorly understood.

Not surprisingly, they found that higher testosterone levels were associated with increased hair loss, particularly at the sides and top of the head. This was consistent with the hormonal causes of female pattern hair loss.

But they also found is that environmental factors such as smoking, divorce, multiple marriages, more children, longer sleep duration, higher income, lack of sun protection, lack of exercise, higher testosterone and history of health conditions such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, polycystic ovarian syndrome and skin disease, may contribute significantly to female hair loss.

The findings suggest a clear area of inquiry when initially meeting with patients. Does the patient smoke? What does the patient do to protect against sun exposure? What is the family situation and what is work like?

Before treatments are considered, we can begin targeting the environmental factors that may be contributing to the hair loss. Stopping smoking, reducing sun exposure and finding ways to prevent or relieve excessive stress can augment hair restoration strategies. Such changes can potentially decrease the extent of a woman's androgenic alopecia and improve the effectiveness of various medications or surgical hair transplant outcomes.

On the flip side, the researchers found another reason to enjoy a cup of coffee or Diet Coke. Caffeine, which we know is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor that directly inhibits the effects of dihydrotestosterone, may stimulate hair growth and protect against androgenic alopecia. As reported in the study:

“The twin who consumed more caffeine showed less hair loss than her sister. Fischer et al. have shown caffeine-induced stimulation of cultured hair follicles, and caffeine's counteraction against the effects of testosterone on follicle growth suppression. Our results suggest that oral caffeine may also provide protection against hair loss in women.”

We want to thank the research team for continuing to expand the hair restoration community’s knowledge base regarding the environmental impacts of androgenic alopecia. The condition affects up to 40 percent of adult women and can have a devastating impact on a woman’s self esteem and body image.

Factors to Consider Before a Hair Transplant

Are you finally taking the plunge? Now is as good a time as any to begin your research on hair transplants. With all the information out there, it is easy to get sidetracked. Below you will find the things to consider- or not- when beginning your hair transplant research.

One of the most common questions we get asked is “how much does a hair transplant cost?” While cost might seem like an important factor, it should not be your primary consideration. The reason for this is because a hair transplant will stay with you the rest of your life. You cannot put a price on quality. I can’t think of many other purchases that last a lifetime.

In fact, Dr. Arocha believes the most important factor to consider when beginning your hair transplant research is the results. There is some truth in the adage, “results do not lie.” If a hair transplant surgeon cannot show you past patient results, consider it a red flag.

Dr. Arocha says, “ This is the patient for today but he will live with his result for the rest of his life. We therefore are only as good as our last outcome. By creating great outcomes we are improving the happiness of the world one patient at a time. ”

There are many places to find before and after results. One of the primary places to go is the clinic’s website. All of the clinics should have a “results” or “photos” section on their website. Browse through the albums for consistency. Questions to ask yourself are: “Does this doctor consistently produce phenomenal results?” “Would I be happy with the way my hair turned out if I trusted in this doctor’s hands?”

Another resource to turn to for patient results is the hair loss forums. There are many out there, with many doctors and their representatives posting results. Some of these are The Hair Transplant Network, the American Hair Loss Association and the Bald Truth Talk Forum just to name a few. Your membership in these online communities is free of charge.

Additionally, look at what patients are saying. Sites such as CitySearch and Google reviews are excellent places to see what patients have to say regarding their hair transplant experiences. If a patient cares enough to take the time to write a review, chances are they had a pleasant experience with their doctor. You can find Dr. Arocha's reviews on both CitySearch and Google reviews.

Finally, keep in mind that if a hair transplant surgeon can continuously produce rock star results with raving reviews, chances are good that your result will also be fantastic.

State of Hair Restoration Report is Out

The results of the annual survey of members of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery are out and they shine the light on a profession that is growing is size, scope and expertise.

A total of 176 ISHRS members responded to the ISHRS 2011 Practice Census, resulting in a margin of error for the sample within +/- 6.4 percent at the 95 percent confidence level. The survey was conducted by Relevant Research, Inc., an independent third party that was hired by ISHRS.

We'll just pull out a few of the findings that we think are of particular value for the hair loss community to be aware of.

	1. A trend that we have been reporting on for the past year -- the normalization of hair restoration with more openness and acceptance -- appears to be accelerating. Just over half (56.4%) of members said their patients would be ‘more likely’ to discuss their hair restoration as they were in 2008, while more than one-third said they would be ‘just as likely’ to discuss their hair restoration surgery as they were in 2008. Only 7.4% responded that their patients would be ‘less likely’ to discuss their hair restoration procedures as they were in 2008. This is great news for those experiencing hair loss because it indicates that there is no reason to feel ashamed of doing whatever you feel is best to regain your confidence.

	2. Members reported that most patients (85.4%) sought treatment due to genetic hair loss, followed by reconstructive needs (7.2%) and post-cosmetic surgery needs (5.0%).

	3. As Dr. Arocha predicted in late 2010, members said they expected the next technological leap in hair restoration to involve cloning. The most common predictions for the next technological leap in hair restoration included cloning / stem cells / cell therapy / cell growth / tissue engineering (54.3%), followed by mechanization / FUE / nano surgery / automation (28.6%) and prevention (2.9%). Other responses included ‘improved storage solution’ and ‘pharmaceutical treatment.’

	4. Based on the survey findings, the ISHRS estimates that there were a total of 101,252 hair restoration surgical procedures (hair transplants) performed in the United States in 2010. Scalp hair transplants were the most common, of course, with a total of 94,343 procedures performed. The second most common procedure was eyebrow transplant, with 3,931 performed.

	5. On average, about half (50%) of members performed 1,000 to 1,999 grafts per session to achieve the desired hair restoration result. The average number of grafts performed per session was 1,842 and the median was 1,800.

	6. Relatively smallish sessions like that might be the reason tha the average number of prcedures performed to achieve the desired hair restoration result was 2.1. Arocha Hair Restoration typically tries to perform all the work in a single session, which is more cost-effiient for the patient. The survey fund that the median was 1.0 procedure and more than half (57%) of members reported performing an average of one procedure to achieve the desired hair restoration result.

	7. The average age of the youngest hair restoration patient at ISHRS member practices in 2010 was 22 years old, with the majority (89.1%) of youngest patient ages being between 18 to 30 years old. The average age of the oldest hair restoration patient at ISHRS member practices in 2010 was 65 years old, with the majority (89.5%) of oldest patients being between 50 to 80 years old.

	8. The majority of first time hair restoration patients were between 30 and 49 years old (83%). On average, first time hair restoration patients were 38 years old.

If you have an interest in what is happening in hair restoration field, you will surely find plenty of interesting and valuable information in the ISHRS 2011 Practice Census.

Other responses included 'improved storage solution' and 'pharmaceutical treatment.'

Some Facts About Seasonal Hair Loss

Have you spotted a few extra hairs on your hairbrush in recent weeks? If so, it is probably part of a natural cycle that has been observed -- seasonal hair loss in men and women. Research suggests that the this process is evolutionary. The body keeps more "resting" hairs on your head during the summer to protect your scalp. These hairs fall away in early autumn in slightly larger amounts than normal.

Seasonal hair loss is natural and reversible.

The normal human hair on the scalp consists of about 100,000 hair follicles. Each healthy hair follicle is capable of hair re-growth innumerable times in its lifetime. According to the study, "Seasonality of Hair Shedding in Healthy Women Complaining of Hair Loss," published in the journal Dermatology by scientists in Sweden, autumn makes adult men and women lose more hair than in the other seasons.

The normal rate of hair shedding is about 50-100 hairs a day. The life cycle of a human hair is between two and six years, with 90 percent of hair in the growth stage while the remaining 10 percent is in the resting stage before it falls out.

The resting stage lasts around two to six months, then after the hair falls out the hair follicle rests for approximately three months before the life cycle starts up again.

But researchers Michael Kunz, Burkhardt Seifert and Ralph M. Trüeb found that some seasonal changes can trigger hair shedding to occur as much as twice as fast as normal. In one study, researchers tracked 800 women over six months and found autumn was the prime time for hair loss.

The team found women had the most "resting" hairs in July, which meant they started falling out around 100 days later in October.

It appears as though the rate of seasonal hair shedding and hair regrowth varies from person to person, but it is important to understand that a fluctuation in hair growth or shedding due to seasonal variations is believed to be a normal process and is a biological trigger to protect you. Scientists hypothesize that the body holds onto hair during the summer as a way of protecting the scalp from hot sun and damaging rays.

As soon as there is a change in the season, the seasonal pattern in hair regrowth or shedding are replaced by more typical patterns. This temporary hair loss not only affects the scalp hair growth but also hair growth on the thighs, arms, and face.

One particularly important implication of these findings has to do with the effectiveness (or apparent lack thereof) of hair loss treatments and research into potential pharmacologic therapies. As the researchers note:

"The existence of seasonal fluctuations in hair growth and shedding complicates the assessment of pharmacological effects. Awareness of these fluctuations is prerequisite to providing the correct cause and prognosis to the patient, ensuring patient compliance with therapy, but it also has potentially serious implications for investigations with new hair-growth-promoting agents: depending on the stage of periodicity in growth and shedding of hair for a particular subject, the heterogeneity of included subjects may be enough to distort the clinical efficacy results and the perceived benefit of an investigational agent. In the active stage of seasonal telogen effluvium, the involved hair follicles would probably fail to respond to the therapeutic agent, which may cause a false-negative result. In the recovery stage, the increased amounts of spontaneously regrowing hair might be interpreted falsely as a positive result."

Both patient and doctor must take the potential of seasonal hair loss into consideration when considering how hair loss treatments are progressing.

So how might you intervene on what appear to be natural cycles? Results of some experiments suggest reducing exposure to daylight may diminish or eliminate seasonal hair shedding.

Researchers have observed that minimal exposure to daylight hours modifies the melatonin secretion rate from the pineal gland, and this in turn affects hormones and their receptors that are present in the skin of the scalp. Since hormone receptors play a role in hair loss, exposure to daylight may have an impact on hair shedding.

Of course, seasonal hair loss is just one cause of hair loss and we recommend arranging a free consultation with Dr. Arocha if you have noticed unusual patterns you would like to address.

Research: Loss of Spouse Could Worsen Female Hair Loss

We wanted to alert you to a very good article published recently by WebMD about the important subject of hair loss experienced by women and its potential causes. We encourage you to read the article, "Divorce, Heavy Drinking, Smoking Linked to Hair Loss," written by Brenda Goodman.

As Goodman writes, researchers have found that the second strongest predictor of midline (central) hair loss among women (after genetics) is their marital status, with the loss of a spouse (through either divorce or death) raising the risk for thinning hair above that of married or single women.

The study also found that excessive drinking and/or smoking also appear to boost the risk for hair loss among women. Study author Dr. Bahman Guyuron, chairman of the department of plastic surgery at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine, presented the findings from two related studies on Sunday at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons' annual meeting in Denver.

The emerging understanding of female hair loss is something Arocha Hair Restoration has been carefully tracking for many years. In the video below, Dr. Bernardino Arocha of Arocha Hair Restoration discusses female pattern hair loss:

In Dr. Guyuron's first study, the authors focused exclusively on a pool of 84 female identical twins, all of whom completed lifestyle questionnaires, followed by hormone blood level testing and an extensive photo analysis of their hair.

Across the temporal area (near temples) of the head, the team found that the more years a woman had smoked the greater the hair loss. A history of skin conditions also contributed to hair loss in that area, while having just a couple drinks per week actually seemed to reduce the risk.

Hair loss in the coronal area (nearer the top) of the head among women was linked to being diabetic, having some form of skin disease and being a current smoker, while being overweight or obese was associated with lower risk of hair loss.

Guyuron said studies of identical twins can be useful because each twin carries the same genes as the other, ruling out genetic differences as a potential cause for a trait or illness. The findings indicate that female hair loss can also be sparked by excessive sleeping patterns, as well as situations commonly associated with stress such as having multiple children and/or getting married.

Women who drank coffee, used sun protection (such as a hat) and were happily married all faced a lower overall risk for hair loss.

The team's second study similarly looked at hair loss among 66 male identical twins. The results: in addition to smoking and sun exposure, having a history of dandruff also boosted midline hair loss risk, while cumulative sun exposure and a history of cancer elevated risk for both temporal and coronal hair loss.

Myth Buster: No Such Thing As "Scarless" Surgery

If you have seen the media blitz by certain practices that perform follicular unit extraction (FUE) procedures claiming that they leave less scarring than strip extraction, you are not alone. FUE is a technique used to harvest hair follicles using a small round punch. The wound from the punch is about one millimeter, but it is left to heal without primary closing. This results in thousands of small white scars.

Unfortunately, false claims like these can create confusion among patients and then disappointment when the patient results don't match expectations. Dr. Bernardino Arocha of Arocha Hair Restoration is always worried when patients have unrealistic expectations. When he saw other hair transplant practices making matters worse, he decided to take action.

Dr. Arocha is speaking out in hopes of getting accurate information into the hands of patients. Not only do FUE procedures typically result in widespread scarring throughout the back of a patient’s scalp, the total scarring is many times greater than the scar from a strip procedure performed by a skilled, experienced hair transplant surgeon.

In the video below, Dr. Arocha explains what patients should really expect and compares the scarring from FUE procedures to the scarring from traditional strip extraction.

Concerned about the false claims he was seeing, Dr. Arocha did a comparison between the total scarring of an FUE procedure and the total scarring of a strip extraction.

Dr. Arocha’s calculation assumes a 1 mm diameter punch, which is the most common size used. The radius of that punch is .5 mm.

Pi (π) is important in the calculation, since the scar from the punch is circular. The area of the scar for each FUE punch can be found using the equation π x r2.

In this case the radius is .5, so the calculation becomes π x .52 or 3.14 x .25 mm.

As a result, we know the total scar area for each FUE punch totals approximately .785 sq. mm.

To find the total scarred area of an FUE procedure, multiply .785 times the number of punches. For a 3,500 follicle procedure, the total scarred area would be 3,500 x .785.

The total is 2,747.5 sq. mm. or approximately 27.5 sq. cm.

Dr. Arocha compared that to the scar from a strip procedure that yields the same number of follicles. He would usually extract a 20 cm (2,000 mm) strip across the back of the scalp and work to minimize the scarring using a two layer closing. The deep layer minimizes surface tension. The superficial layer gently brings the surface margins together, allowing the healing of the wound with minimal tension. The third step, is the beveling of the lower wound edge, which causes the hair to grow through the scar, making it only faintly visible.

The total scar area can be calculated by multiplying the length of the scar (20 cm) by the width of the scar (.1 cm to .2 cm).

Therefore, the total scar area from the strip method is just two to four sq. cm. compared to the total scar area from the FUE method of 27.5 sq. cm.

About Hair Restoration

Even the most advanced stage of hair loss, a Norwood stage 7, has hair continuing to grow in the fringe area on the sides and back of the head. Because of this, hair is not affected by DHT (a testosterone by-product), if a hair transplant is completed to parts of the scalp where thinning hair or balding is occurring, this hair will continue to grow for the rest of your life. Caring for your hair transplant requires little to no maintenance, as the transplanted hair is your own, natural hair that has been moved permanently to a different place on your scalp. This transplanted hair will grow at the same rate as the rest of your hair, about one cm/month.

For women, hair transplants are used to increase density in the thinning areas of the scalp, making the hair loss undetectable and increasing styling options.

Hair Replacement Recovery

	Hair Transplant Recovery

Most hair replacement surgery patients experience a quick recovery. Discomfort is normally minimal and brief. Most discomfort is the result of sleeping on the surgical wound where the strip of skin was removed. This is usually remedied by Tylenol or Motrin. A more potent painkiller can be taken, but is usually unnecessary as the pain is rarely anything but mild.

The actual grafts also heal quickly, forming a brown scab. These scabs are shed around one week post procedure. Using a Graftcyte post-surgical kit is recommended to aid in the healing and growth of your hair transplant. These are available at our Dallas Hair Restoration office.

See Actual Post-Surgical Scars from some Hair Restoration Patients

Hair Replacement Surgery

Dr. Arocha's experienced surgical and patient staff will be on hand for your hair replacement session in your own private surgical suite in your Dallas, TX facility.

 Hair Restoration Procedure -

The hair restoration or hair replacement process begins by having a small area from the back of your scalp shaved in preparation for surgical removal. Once the small area of your scalp has been carefully removed, the section will be closed by sutures. Individual follicles will be harvested from the isolated strip of scalp and prepared for transplantation into the recommended areas. Dr. Arocha will then make tiny incisions in the transplant area in which to gently insert the individual follicles to restore your hair loss.

The hair restoration process ranges from 6-8 hours from start to completion. Dr. Arocha’s experience and skill in microsurgical techniques will ensure an undetectable and natural result as well as planning for future progression by restoring a naturally occurring hair pattern.

Hair restoration recovery is usually quick with little to no discomfort.

See the video below for a brief description of what Dr. Arocha considers some of the important aspects of hair transplant surgery:
