Hair Restoration Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What qualifies me as a good candidate for hair restoration surgery?
A. Most healthy men and women are great candidates for hair restoration surgery. Most patients gain self-esteem and confidence after the hair restoration surgery and are very happy with the procedure and the outcome. Young men and women are especially grateful after restoring their own, natural hair if they've experienced hair loss early in life.
Q. Does insurance apply to a hair restoration procedure?
A. In most cases, hair restoration is considered cosmetic and is not covered by insurance. However, we offer financing option through our partnership with CareCredit and accept all major credit cards.
Q. Are there any restrictions on the activities I enjoyed before the hair replacement surgery?
A. Unlike other hair restoration "solutions," after recovery, you can participate in all of the activities you enjoyed prior to your hair restoration. Since the transplanted hair is your own, natural hair, it grows in the same way as your existing hair, needing no special maintenance or restrictions.
Q. How long is the typical recovery from hair restoration surgery?
A. Although each individual patient is different, the recovery timeline is relatively quick. Slight discomfort may occur the first few nights after surgery when sleeping as additional pressure is applied to your scalp as it heals, but taking an over-the-counter painkiller is usually very effective for relieving discomfort. In about a week, tiny brown scabs will shed from the transplanted follicle sites and your scalp will be smooth and normal again.
Q. What are some other hair restoration options available for reducing my baldness or thinning hair?
A. Medicines like Rogaine® and Propecia® are effective for helping restore hair in limited degrees. Their results vary from patient to patient and can be effective in slowing or stabilizing the process of hair loss, especially when used in conjunction with hair restoration surgery.
Other options include hair pieces and extensions.
