Male Pattern Baldness Treatment

Your male pattern baldness (MPB) is treated in two ways. Surgically speaking, your hair restoration procedure will restore the framing of your face, the area most noticeable in your day-to-day life. A critical element in the hair transplant and surgical option is that a naturally occurring pattern be restored. With the use of microsurgical techniques and highly skilled physician and staff, your results will be completely undetectable and natural.

The second way to stabilize hair loss is by medical treatment. MPB therapy that is most effective consists of Propecia and Rogaine 5%. Propecia works by blocking 5a-reductase, preventing the conversion of testosterone to DHT. This is important, because alopecia progresses until the specific pattern of baldness that you have inherited has completely developed. Propecia slows or stops hair loss progression in about 90% of men and can aid in hair regrowth in the crown area for close to 48% of men. Propecia is intended for use in men only.

The second most effective medicine available for MPB treatment is minoxidil, the active ingredient in Rogaine. It slows or stops hair loss in roughly 35% of patients and can help restore hair in the crown for close to 10% of users. The 5% Rogaine treatment is 45% more effective than the 2% solution, but is more likely to cause scalp irritation and oily hair.
